We are more adventurous than most

While sitting here writing this post I look out my window to see someone parasailing over Martis Valley. Yes, we really are more adventurous than most! In fact, the outdoors and recreation we have right out our backdoor is a huge motivator for wanting to live here. It never ceases to amaze me to learn of some of the adventures people take part in. Sitting in a meeting, I learn that the gal next to me is heading to Austria to compete in the Winter World Master Games. These “Biathamoms” start their days skiing cross-country and shooting rifles—“we ski, we shoot, we raise kids.”

And we have the Donner Party Mountain Runners—a nonprofit running club founded in 2014 to share their passion for trail running in our beautiful mountains. While some of their members are ultra-marathoners, they have many group runs of varying degree of difficulty and "newbie" runs as well. It's a great way to meet other runners and explore the thousands of incredible trails in the area.

Being adventurous can mean many things. To one, it may mean strapping skins to your skis to hike up a mountain and do some backcountry skiing, to another it may mean snowshoeing along the lake in Donner Memorial State Park. Whatever your comfort level or definition of adventurous, if you live in Truckee, you are more adventurous than most.
