Truckee River Is Open for Guided Whitewater Rafting this Summer with Steady River Flow

Tributary Whitewater is running trips on both the Boca and Verdi sections of the Truckee River.

Historic winter snowfall is providing fantastic and steady river flows for the Truckee River, near Lake Tahoe, allowing Tributary Whitewater to run guided rafting trips on the highly sought-after Verdi section. Once the high water subsides, expected around early July, rafters can enjoy the traditional Boca run. Truckee River rafting began in May, is continuing throughout the entire summer, and into the fall.

“The Truckee River is open for guided rafting and the trips are all-time this year,” said Jeremiah Copper, Owner of Tributary Whitewater. “The opportunity to run the Verdi section only comes around every couple of years and we are taking full advantage of it.”

The Verdi run is only available in high snow years, including this season, and is a rare and sought-after river trip. The section features mellow Class II rapids most of the trip with a series of Class III+ rapids at the end. Rafters enter at Crystal Peak Park and exit at Maybury Park where they are shuttled back to the put-in spot.  The Verdi section is currently running and expected to run through June. After June, Truckee River trips will continue on the Boca run. 

The Truckee River Boca run features half-day Class II-III+ rapids, is suitable for ages 7+ and non-swimmers, and typically runs from May to mid-September. It starts with several fun Class II-II+ rapids and downstream guests encounter Class III+ rapids named Jaws and Bronco. Rafters enter at Boca and exit at Floriston where they are shuttled back to the put-in spot.
