Our October Networking Mixer hosted by Matices was a feast for the senses! Chamber members and local business owners gathered at Matices in historic Downtown Truckee for an evening filled with incredible food, creative cocktails, warm hospitality, and plenty of lively conversation. Hosted by Owner & CEO Amié Fitzhugh and her wonderful team, the event offered a special opportunity to experience the restaurant's beautiful fine dining space while connecting with fellow members of our business community.

From the moment guests arrived, it was clear that this would be a memorable evening. The elegant yet comfortable setting provided the perfect backdrop for networking, and the friendly Matices staff made everyone feel right at home. They even had stylish Halloween decorations. With delicious bites circulating, craft cocktails and mocktails in hand, and conversations flowing, the atmosphere struck just the right balance between sophisticated and relaxed.

A Special Preview of a New Truckee Culinary Experience

One of the highlights of the evening was the opportunity to experience the fine dining side of Matices ahead of its public opening. Located in the heart of historic downtown Truckee, Matices brings an exciting new culinary experience to the Truckee-Tahoe dining scene.

The restaurant takes its inspiration from Spanish and South American cuisine, incorporating refined French and Japanese techniques to create dishes that are both inventive and approachable. Fresh, thoughtfully sourced ingredients, unexpected flavor combinations, and beautiful presentation are at the heart of the Matices philosophy.

But there's more to Matices than exceptional food. The restaurant is also built around the idea that sharing a meal is one of the best ways to bring people together, a philosophy that made it an especially fitting location for our Chamber mixer.

Matices offers two complementary dining experiences, and the good news is that you don't have to wait to enjoy what Matices has to offer! The Social @ Matices is open now, welcoming guests into a beautiful, more casual tapas-style setting where they can enjoy the restaurant's fresh, inventive flavors, creative cocktails, curated wines, and delicious dishes designed for sharing.

The more refined Matices Restaurant concept, opening soon, will take the culinary experience a step further, with elevated cuisine, artistic presentation, and a focus on memorable dining experiences.

Our mixer guests were treated to a preview of that fine dining experience, and it certainly gave everyone plenty to talk about!

An Incredible Menu of Small Bites and Big Flavors

Of course, the food and drinks were the stars of the evening! The Matices culinary team put together an impressive selection of small bites featuring some of The Social's most popular dishes alongside a few new creations. Each offered a taste of the creativity and attention to detail that make Matices such an exciting addition to Truckee's dining scene. The bartenders never stopped moving, hand crafting each delicious cocktail, including Apple & Serpent: Whiskey, Aperol, Amaro Montenegro, lemon, and smoked applesauce and the mocktail version with Nectar De Manzana, smoked applesauce, lemon, and soda water -- both served in cut crystal glasses, and other selections from their curated wine and cocktail menu.

Guests enjoyed a beautiful charcuterie board featuring a selection of cheeses, house-made breads, jamón Ibérico, fresh vegetables, and Marcona almonds. It was an inviting way to start the evening and a perfect accompaniment to the cocktails, mocktails, beer, and wine being enjoyed throughout the room.

The small plates showcased the kitchen's talent for transforming fresh ingredients into something special. A vibrant tomato dish paired fresh tomatoes with creamy burrata and Marshall's honey vinaigrette, creating a wonderful combination of freshness, richness, and sweetness.

The bold flavors of the potato with fontina cheese and marinated roe, was mouth-watering combination of comforting flavors and refined ingredients. Guests also had the opportunity to sample artichokes braised in barigoule, then grilled and served with Swarandipa aioli, a dish that reflected the restaurant's creative, globally inspired approach.

The passed appetizers brought even more flavor to the evening.

The ceviche was incredible, featuring white fish, aji amarillo, leche de tigre, sweet potato, canchitas, and Peruvian salad. This colorful dish highlighted the bright, lively flavors of South American cuisine, with a delicious combination of citrus, spice, and contrasting textures.

Guests also enjoyed anticucho-marinated steak skewers accompanied by aji pollero, aji amarillo, and lime. These savory bites offered another taste of the restaurant's South American influences and were perfectly suited to an evening of mingling.

Matices finished things off with an assortment of festive baked goods and bite-sized frozen pineapple whip topped with brown butter crumble. It was a fun and flavorful ending to an impressive selection of dishes.

The entire menu reflected what makes Matices special: fresh ingredients, thoughtful preparation, creative combinations, and food that's as beautiful to look at as it is delicious to eat.

While the food and setting were certainly highlights, the purpose of our monthly networking mixers is to bring our business community together, and this event was a wonderful example of that.

Throughout the evening, Chamber members and guests had the chance to reconnect with familiar faces, meet new people, exchange ideas, and strengthen relationships in a relaxed and welcoming environment.
