If there’s one thing Truckee locals know how to do, it’s après! In truth, you really can’t go wrong anywhere, but I’ve come up with a list of some of my all-time favorite spots. It’s entirely likely you’ll see me sitting at the barstool across from you at one of the below establishments—make sure to say hello!
FiftyFifty Brewing Co.
We’re proud of our local brewery scene, and FiftyFifty is leading the charge. Located in The Rock on Brockway Road just a few minutes from Historic Downtown, there’s always plenty of parking (including Tesla charging stations) and a lively buzz inside. Try the award-winning Eclipse to warm you up on a cold night. Owners Alicia (former Truckee Mayor) and Andy Barr are totally committed to Truckee’s community and have some innovative ideas in the future! They also own the best Asian cuisine in town—Drunken Monkey, next door to FiftyFifty!
Old Town Tap
This newer establishment in Truckee was opened in 2016 by Marlena and Luke from Mill Valley who get sophisticated, simple and organic dining fused with cocktails. Old Town Tap has quickly risen the ranks in my list of favorites. Think insanely good pizza meets locally sourced ingredients, plus one of the best indoor ambiences in town. Order the brussel sprouts and the mushroom pie pizza (just trust me) and ask the knowledgeable bartender for a recommendation from their extensive craft beer and cocktail menu. Sit at the bar and chat weather with the locals.
Bar of America
Located right at the intersection of Donner Pass Road and Brockway Road, this historic watering hole is where you’ll want to go for a true local vibe—along with a fantastic cocktail menu, great selection of food (try the Parmesan Truffle Fries), and live music Thursday through Sunday evenings. I recently ordered the Ancient Grain & Avocado Salad, which is probably one of the healthiest meals you’ll find in Historic Downtown (thank you Executive Chef Ryan Duin)! If wine is your thing (and really, whose thing isn’t wine?) check out the Bar of America’s extensive offerings. Bonus points if you stay late and get the party started on the dance floor!
With multiple locations throughout North Tahoe, Truckee’s Uncorked wine bar and shop is a must! Owned and operated by local Kali Kopley, Uncorked is another great example of Truckee entrepreneurship creating a fantastic après wine-tasting and noshing experience in Historic Downtown. Perfect for a date night, settle in at the bar or pick one of the tables in the back. The gals who work here are awesome and very helpful if you’re in need of recommendations. Check out their online events calendar to attend an upcoming Wine Making Event. Cheers!
