Calling Truckee home has advantages in all the obvious senses — unfettered access to the mountains, jewel-toned alpine lakes straight out of a postcard, and world-class skiing in every direction. As a creative who has made Truckee my base camp for work and play, there’s no better source of inspiration than the alpenglow on the Sierra. But what good are endless daytime adventures without the local watering hole to dish out tall tales après?

Brewery & Taproom
Tahoe Mountain Brewing Company opened its doors in 2012. From day one, local founder and owner Aaron Bigelow’s main goal is experimentation in the brewhouse and a barrel-aging cellar. With respect to tradition and age-old methods, the brewers harmoniously blend modern science, spontaneity, creativity, and the best ingredients available to produce a wide range of fine craft ales and lagers.
Summer in Truckee means early morning paddling on Donner Lake, mountain bike rides and pump track sessions. Donner train tunnel hikes and rock climbing, floating the river and hanging out in downtown. In my mind, a cold beer or a great glass of wine is the perfect pairing to all of those activities, and a great way to end a day spent with family and friends outdoors.
